Treating kids in my office has taken on an entirely new meaning over these past few years. I find myself in the unique situation of seeing airway issues being manifested in the mouth, and having the opportunity to provide education and early intervention for my kids patients and their parents.
Some signs of sleep disordered breathing or airway restriction for kids are:
- grinding teeth while sleeping
- waking often
- sleeping but still tired during the day
- snoring
- bedwetting
- acid reflux
- restless sleep
- allergies
- mood disorder/hyperactivity
- mouth breathing
Alysha did a great job in allowing me to do my full exam. She also let me see what her oral rest posture of tongue was and if she had any associated restrictions- all in all, it was a great visit!
Exams for us go beyond cleaning teeth and checking for cavities- it’s also about checking for overall health.
